BRPT Call For Volunteers For Education and Professional Review Committees

BRPT CALL For volunteers

We are currently looking for volunteers to support the work of the BRPT Education Committee and the Professional Review Committee.

The Education Committee, chaired by Laura Linley, CRT, RPSGT, FAAST, is committed to encouraging formal education programs for sleep technologists. In doing so, the committee oversees the Sleep Technology Approved Resource (STAR) Program. STAR-designated programs fall into one of three different categories: the Self-Study Programs, Focused Programs that include both self-study or expanded classroom education and on-site skills training and Focused 2 Programs that include at least 80 hours of lecture and on-site skills training and must be paired with a Self-Study program to meet exam eligibility requirements.

The Education Committee is responsible for reviewing all new STAR program applications and, if accepted, approving the curriculum for those programs. At least two committee members review each application, and those committee members must hold the credential that the STAR program represents. In January, the BRPT launched its new reporting system, which will generate STAR program examination result statistics and will be provided annually to all STAR Program Directors.

The Professional Review Committee (PRC), chaired by Michael McLeland, Ph.D., RPSGT, ensures credential holders are in accordance with the CPSGT, RPSGT and CCSH standards of professional conduct which govern their professional activities. A violation of these standards may be grounds for administrative action and possible revocation of a credential. The committee is made up of technologists from all over the country and one public member. The mission of the PRC is to ensure that all technologists are held to the highest standards that would be expected from anyone working in or receiving healthcare services. When the BRPT receives a complaint, the committee carefully reviews the information and often asks the complainant for more detail. The committee also contacts the individual to whom the complaint is made, ensuring details from both sides are investigated. After gathering the facts from both parties, the committee then deliberates the case and ultimately makes a ruling.

BRPT is seeking assistance from active RPSGTs who have a particular interest or experience in either of these areas. This is a unique chance to gain a broader understanding of the work involved in these two committees and an excellent opportunity to make valuable business and personal connections by working alongside BRPT Board members and other colleagues in the field.

  • Volunteers must be active RPSGT credential holders.
  • Volunteers must have experience and/or a particular interest in the committee to which they are applying.
  • Volunteers are expected to respond in a timely manner to requests from the BRPT Chair.
  • Volunteers are expected to participate in conference calls when necessary.

If you are interested in this opportunity to influence and support either of these committees, please send an email, including your resume/CV, to the following:
